How to book your Smart meter appointment
Check your eligibility, then pick a time and date that suits you to join millions of other households taking control of their energy.
Coronavirus (COVID-19)
We're in a position where we can start installing Smart meters again, so you can now book your appointment, or register your interest. When our meter operatives install Smart meters, they work to government safety recommendations and follow social distancing and hygiene guidelines. To talk about your new in-home display, or tailored energy efficiency guidance, they'll phone you from their van to limit the time they're in your home.
Why should I get a Smart meter?
- No more estimated bills - you'll only be billed for the energy you've used*
- Your Smart meter comes at no extra cost
- Make it easier to see where you could save money
*Unless there's a problem collecting a reading
What is a Smart meter?
A Smart meter is the next generation of gas and electricity meter. It records the energy you use and automatically sends it to us and to a handheld Smart Energy Display (SED) in your home.
Put your SED somewhere where you can keep an eye on it and it’ll give you an idea of what you’re paying for your energy.

About the installation
When we come to install your Smart meters, we’ll work to the Ofgem-approved
.You (or another adult) need to be there with the installers the whole time, even if your meter is outside.
It can take up to two hours to complete your installation. For safety reasons, we may need to switch off your gas and electricity supply for about 30 minutes each, even if we're only installing a gas Smart meter. So please choose a date and time when you can be without power for this long.
Help make Britain energy smart
