Carbon monoxide safety
What is Carbon monoxide?
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly poisonous gas that can kill. It is invisible and has no smell or taste. Appliances that burn fuels, such as gas, coal, oil and wood can produce CO if they have not been properly installed or regularly serviced to ensure they’re not faulty.
Carbon monoxide is often referred to as the ‘silent killer’, as it’s almost impossible to detect unless you have a CO alarm. However, with just a few key safety checks and preventative measures, you can protect yourself and your household from the negative effects of a CO leak. Find out more about carbon monoxide, its effects and the causes by clicking on the guides below. And don’t forget to check if you’re eligible for a free Gas Safety Check. If you are eligible, one of our engineers will visit each year and check your gas appliances to make sure they’re safe and that your gas boiler isn’t at risk of emitting carbon monoxide.
