What is the ECO scheme?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government, energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.
The energy efficient products available through the ECO scheme include loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and boilers.
How does the ECO scheme work?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme could give you free or subsidised energy-saving home improvements in just a few easy steps.
Here's how it works:
- Check your eligibility – It only takes a few minutes to fill out the form to see if you and your home qualifies.
- If you’re eligible, you can book a survey with our trusted installer. After this, you’ll find out whether your home is suitable for free or subsidised home improvements and any funding that might be available.
- Complete your installation. This usually takes around 1-2 days depending on your property and the work required.
How do I qualify for the ECO scheme?
You could qualify for free home energy improvements under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme based on:
- Your property type
- The government benefits you or someone living in your home receives.

Do I need to be an npower customer to benefit from the ECO scheme?
No. You don’t have to be an npower customer to apply.
What products are on offer under the ECO scheme?
Since the launch of the ECO scheme, npower and our approved provider have been offering to customers who qualify and have a need for it, free or subsidised:
- Gas boilers
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
