Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
Get paid for your excess electricity
As part of a government initiative, if you generate your own electricity through renewable sources, like sun or wind, you can get paid for surplus energy. So if you generate more electricity than you use in your home or business, and export it back to the grid, you could receive export payments.
What is SEG?
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a government obligation for larger suppliers to offer an export tariff that pays customers for excess electricity that they send back to the grid from renewable technologies such as solar panels. SEG replaces the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme which ended on 1 April 2019 for new applicants. The SEG tariff is available from 1 January 2020.
More details and how to apply
To apply for the export tariff, you'll need to have a renewable energy technology installed such as solar, wind, hydro or anaerobic digestion. Other eligibility criteria will apply.
As part of the E.ON group, npower customers can apply for the export tariff through E.ON. Find out more about SEG including eligibility criteria, frequently asked questions and how to apply on the E.ON website.
