Windermere – 21-mile row

It was wet, it was windy, it was well worth the effort!

From experienced rowers to complete novices, we saw 44 colleagues take to the water on Wednesday 21 May. Lake Windermere was the venue, and everyone was up for the challenge.

Every one of our colleagues gave their all at the oars for this mammoth 21-mile row. Pep-talks before the event clearly had an effect, and – although there were a few course deviations, thanks to gusting winds and passing speed boats – everyone made it home inside the predicted eight-hour window.

Gareth Pickles lent his support on the day, saying, "Macmillan is a wonderful charity. Our ten year partnership is something we’re very proud of – and the enthusiasm we’ve seen for this year’s fundraising campaign proves how much we care about this partnership.

Watching the boats set off from Ambleside, Sarah from Macmillan said, "Everyone at npower was so friendly and welcoming, and I loved hearing about everyone’s backgrounds. So many people were so praising of npower as an employer, and that is surely down to the huge amount of work that npower do to help - the activities sound incredibly fun and worthwhile. I feel privileged that Macmillan is the charity that you keep on choosing to work with".
