Stage 3: Energy supply and buy-back
Once you’ve got your solar PV panels up and running, we will set you up with an energy supply and buy-back arrangement. In order to do this you will need to join npower's buy-back scheme. A member of our team will arrange to:
Supply you with 100% renewable energy via npower juice, our green electricity. Juice costs no more than npower’s standard electricity and we’ll even donate £10 on your behalf each year to the npower juice fund, which finances research into sustainable energy sources for the future. See our website (www.npower.com/juice) or request an information booklet (call 0800 316 2610) + for more information.
Set up an ‘export-reward tariff’, whereby npower will buy any excess electricity that you ‘export’ to the National Grid from your solar PV panels. You will receive the same amount for exported electricity as the standard tariff follow on rate that you would pay for the electricity you buy from npower**.
Apply on your behalf for any ‘Renewables Obligation Certificates’ that you may be eligible for. When you make your own electricity via solar PV panels, you effectively become a renewable energy generator – and for every megawatt hour (1000 kilowatt hours – or kWh) of energy you produce, you are entitled to a Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROC) #. npower will arrange to buy yours from you for the market value (currently £34.30 per ROC, set by Ofgem). On average a 2kWp photovoltaic system produces 2 ROCs during your obligation period (April to March) – netting £68.60 extra a year**.
