Global warming
Global warming is the increase in the average air temperature of the atmosphere. See global warming
Buy it, make it, save it with npower
The world is waking up to the very real challenges we all face as a result of global warming and the associated change in climate that’s occurring.
Energy is npower’s business and we recognise our great responsibility to work with both the Government and customers to help reduce some of the causes of climate change. That’s why we’re committed to encouraging customers to use less! We’re one of the UK’s largest generators of green energy and are also supporting the development of new carbon-free and renewable energy sources for the future.
As Britain’s brightest energy company, we’re dedicated to pursuing new ways of producing green energy and promoting its use among our customers – we’ve called it New Energy.
New energy encompasses three key areas:
Buying Green energy
npower juice is our green electricity product which gives you access to 100% renewable energy* and invests on your behalf in supporting the development of new green energies. More than 50,000 households have already made the switch to npower juice. The big bonus is that it costs the same as npower's standard electricity with no premiums, but you’re doing your bit. Click here for more details about npower juice.
Making your own energy
npower solar can provide all the expertise to help you become more self sufficient by installing solar PV panels to make electricity and hot water for your home. If you generate any excess electricity, we can even arrange to buy it back from you when you join the npower microgeneration export scheme#. Click here for more information.
Saving Energy
We’re also working hard to help you save energy – after all, the greenest unit of energy is the unit you don’t use. Click here for easy ways to save on energy – and also save on bills.
What is global warming?
Global warming is occurring because the planet is heating up as the result of too much carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere. A major source of carbon comes from burning fossil fuels for energy – for example, to heat our homes or run our cars. The carbon rises up to the earth’s upper atmosphere where it acts like an insulating coat, reflecting heat from the sun back to the earth’s surface.
This is beginning to have an effect on our climate with potentially damaging consequences. For example, ice caps are starting to melt at the Poles, which could cause sea levels to rise, and higher temperatures and less rainfall are being recorded in areas which already suffer from drought.
* Your electricity supply shall remain the same, npower will estimate your npower juice energy consumption throughout the year until year end, when we will check your annual consumption data and ensure the correct amount of renewable energy has been purchased to cover your annual consumption. This ensures an equivalent amount of electricity is generated from clean, renewable sources which is better for the environment.
