Ofgem investigation into mis-selling

Following a media report, Ofgem launched an investigation into mis-selling by RWE npower, covering the period 1 November 2007 to 30 April 2008. Ofgem found that our policies and training materials made it clear that we take compliance seriously. However, whilst recognising our swift action, they also found that we hadn't taken sufficient action to prevent mis-selling on this occasion. We were fined £1.8 million for this.

As a result of our actions to strengthen our procedures, such as mystery shopping, Ofgem confirmed that ‘there was no evidence to suggest a continuing or future breach of the relevant obligations’.

We’re pleased that Ofgem has recognised our improvements and confirmed that they represent best practice. However, we will remain constantly vigilant to ensure that our sales team maintain our high standards as we are determined that this will not happen again.
