Health Through Warmth (HTW) in action
One example of Health Through Warmth’s work last year came from a referral received from an East Riding Carers support worker.
Cheryl Murtagh was referred along with her 13-year old son Jacob, who has cerebral palsy. Mrs Murtagh was living in a house with an old gas boiler, which regularly broke down, no radiators on the first floor, damaged windows and a broken washing machine.
When the HTW coordinator received the referral, she applied for a Warm Front Grant. This covered a new boiler, controls and thermostat (with the npower HTW crisis fund paying £1,500 of the excess grant needed for the work – and the final £200 was donated by the Frank Buttle Trust).
HTW also contacted the Family Fund on behalf of Mrs Murtagh and was able to access funding for a new washing machine and window repairs. The area HTW coordinator has since helped Cheryl move to a dual-fuel tariff to reduce her heating bills in the future.
