Charitable Giving

In 2011, the RWE npower Charity Committee donated over £250,000 to more than 40 charities and community organisations across the UK. Our donations supported a range of projects, including essential medical equipment for children born with heart disease, a sensory garden for a hospice in Stoke and mature tree planting in and around Birmingham.

Our Charity Committee is responsible for assessing funding requests against an agreed set of criteria. The Committee meets every eight weeks. It is chaired by Alison Cole, our Director of Communications, and is made up of representatives from across the company.

The committee donates to a wide variety of causes and also selects, along with the support of our employees, one charity partner with whom we form a unique partnership. This partnership ensures that we can develop a strong working relationship with the charity and deliver long-term benefits.

Our current partner is Macmillan Cancer Support, with whom we’ve been working since 2004. Over the last eight years, our employees have taken part in a huge range of fundraising events and activities and our partnership with Macmillan is now valued at £5 million.
