Managing water, waste and energy efficiency

As an integrated energy company, with both generation and supplier sites, we have an extremely diverse property portfolio. We are committed to reducing the impact our sites have on both the environment and the surrounding communities. This ranges from engaging our office-based employees with our recycling programme, to implementing innovative techniques to save water at our power stations, to finding viable engineering uses for the ash from our coal-fired power stations.

We also recognise that our impact as a business has a global impact, and that is why we set ourselves ever increasing improvement targets. Evidence of this activity can be seen in our achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard company-wide across our sites, awarded in January 2011.

The commitment to protect the environment around our sites can also be seen in our site-specific Biodiversity Action Plans, together with the education programmes developed to engage local children on energy efficiency and environmental issues, complementing the National Curriculum.
