Energy efficiency is increasingly important to business and residential customers. Energy efficiency solutions can reduce a customer’s energy bill as well as their carbon footprint. We continue to invest in our Energy Services business to meet the growing demand for energy services in the UK. For our business, offering energy services is a real opportunity to grow and it continues to shape the future of our retail business. Between 2010 and 2013, we estimate that our Energy Services business will deliver more than 850,000 energy efficiency measures to our customers, which will save over 550,000 tonnes of CO2 every year and will reduce emissions by around 20 million tCO2 over the lifetime of the measures.

Our dedicated Energy Efficiency Helpline team take calls from customers looking for advice, tips and additional information on how to save energy. The team provides energy efficiency advice and can produce personalised energy efficiency reports to calculate savings that could be made and recommendations for measures to reduce customers’ energy spend.

In 2011, we conducted a review of our domestic energy services business and made the decision to withdraw from installations and focus on providing domestic cover and maintenance, as well as offering our customers microgeneration such as solar PV. For our business energy services team, we increased the services we offer in the social housing space, installing renewable power and thermal systems and expanding the energy management products we offer small to large businesses.
