Local community
RWE npower has a long-term commitment to Pembroke and the surrounding area. Through links with local authorities, environmental groups and educational establishments, a new power station would continue to play an important role in the community.
RWE npower would continue to fund, sponsor and support local initiatives. During the initial planning phase we have contributed to a number of community events including sponsorship of the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock festivals, and we provided funding for the Foundry House Community Centre project.
In addition, a Local Liaison Committee would be formed to enable local community representatives to meet with the project team and discuss the development of the power station.
The construction of a new power station would be a major project, but every effort would be made to keep disruption to a minimum. Construction traffic would use agreed routes and would be carefully controlled to limit impact on local roads. Construction working hours would also be limited to reduce the effect on local residents living nearby.
A new power station is a major, long-term investment that would make a significant economic contribution to the local area. The construction of the proposed power station would create up to 1,500 jobs and once operational, up to 100 long-term, high quality jobs would be created at the plant.
The power station would be a significant investment, costing around £800 million to construct and it is estimated that, once in operation, it would bring a long-term benefit to the local economy of around £10 million each year.
