Cycle Coast 2 Coast
We'll have at least 40 cyclists taking part in a 225km cycle from Whitehaven to Sunderland on the weekend of the 21st June.
The event will start on the Friday evening and finish on Monday morning: during that time we’ll cross the Pennines, cycling mainly on cycle paths and minor roads through an area of outstanding natural beauty.
- Friday 20 June: arrive for a meal and campout near Whitehaven.
- Saturday 21 June: a cool 55 mile cycle up to our next camp in Penrith, over undulating terrain.
- Sunday 22 June: our longest day, travelling 65 miles to our next camp site.
- Monday 23 June: the shortest day, travelling to Sunderland via Rainton to see our colleagues and ending up at South Shields beach at approximately 1.00 pm.
Participants will need a high level of fitness and experience of riding 55 miles in a day is definitely advisable. We’ll be challenging everyone who’s taking part to raise a minimum of £400 each – and we’re confident they’ll succeed.
It's our 10th year of supporting Macmillan and we’re marking the occasion with 10 fund-raising challenges. Through these, and our Coffee Morning and Christmas event, we hope to raise £150,000 that will help people affected by cancer manage their energy bills more easily.
