Privacy Policy
At RWE Npower plc ("we", "us" or "our" for short) we and our group companies are committed to protecting your personal information. Your personal information (also called ‘personal data’) is the information about you that we get from you and others in various ways. Under the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”) specific obligations are placed on us in the way we handle this type of information and the aim of this privacy policy is to let you know what personal information we collect from you when you apply for a job or graduate role with us, when you use our website and when you contact us, how we store and use it, and how you can access and manage this information.
We’re responsible for the website and are the ‘data controller’ for the purposes of the Act. We’re registered to collect and process personal data. We only use personal data fairly and lawfully and ensure that it is kept secure. Your personal information may be stored online and therefore we take steps to ensure that our systems are well protected.
As you are applying for a job or graduate role within our group, it may be that your information needs to be passed to the relevant group company as part of the application process. Just so you know, our group companies who may have access to your information under this privacy policy are:

Please note that this privacy policy only covers www.brightergraduates.com. Other areas of www.npower.com, www.npowerjobs.com and other websites accessible via links are not covered by this policy. If you access any of these sites, please check the privacy policy applicable to these sites (if any) before you submit any of you personal information to them.
So, what personal information do we collect about you?
We collect the personal information requested by our application forms and contact forms together with any comments or remarks that you may provide in free text fields (such as personal statements) or CVs (where applicable). We may also keep a record of references received from third parties (including those you give us, credit reference and fraud prevention agencies) and of any other correspondence or communication between you and us, whether written, e-mailed, or as a result of visits, interviews or recorded telephone calls.
We also monitor site traffic and, like most websites, we use a Unique Visitor Cookie (which is supplied and managed by a carefully selected statistics provider) to identify your PC by a random number (e.g. #12489). More details about cookies and how you can disable them can be found set out in this privacy policy below.
Whilst we take steps to protect user privacy, no data transmission over the internet can be entirely secure. We therefore do not guarantee the security of the personal information that you send us, or your use of the site. Any personal information you do send is at your own risk but once we receive it we use strict procedures to safeguard it.
How do we use your personal information?
Personal information you provide or we hold about you may be used by us, our group companies and/or associated third party companies, including those acting on our behalf with the recruitment process. Your personal information may be used:
- to identify you when you contact us;
- to assess and process your job or graduate role application;
- to contact you in any way in relation to the progress of you job or graduate role application (including via post, e-mail, telephone, visit, interview, text or multimedia messages);
- as part of anonymous aggregate statistics;
- for training and monitoring purposes (such as when you contact us by telephone).
We always ensure that third parties we use in connection with the running of the site and services (for example hosting providers or those assisting with the recruitment process) are subject to strict contractual obligations. They are only able to process your personal information on our behalf in accordance with our principles and instructions.
From time to time, data may be used by associated third party companies who are outside of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) in countries that do not have the same standards of protection for personal information as the UK. Where we, our group companies and/or associated third parties transfer data outside of the EEA this is only ever done with the relevant protections required by law in place.
Please note that we reserve the right to access and disclose individually identifiable information to comply with any applicable laws and lawful government requests, to operate our systems properly, to protect both ourselves and our users, and where we are approached by a potential buyer of our business or assets, or in relation to any joint venture or business arrangement. We also reserve the right to release your details to any organisation to whom we may transfer our rights or obligations.
How can you find out what personal information we hold about you?
Just ask us! You have a right to access personal information that we hold about you and you can do so by:

Such a request is called a “Subject Access Request” or “SAR” for short. Following your initial contact we will write to you with an application form designed to enable us to deal quickly and accurately with your SAR. We ask that you complete and return this to us within 30 days. Please note that all SARs are subject to an administration fee of £10 which you will need to send to us along with your completed application form before we can process your SAR.
Even if you don’t want a copy of your personal information, you can still contact us to check that the personal information that we hold is accurate or to let us know of any changes to your personal information. We always try to ensure that the information we hold is accurate, up to date and relevant and, as you are applying for a job or graduate role with us, it is important that we have the right information in order to be able contact you. We'll be more than happy to make changes or to correct any inaccuracies.
So, what are cookies and why do we use them?
Cookies are files that are recorded in temporary Internet folders on your PC. They're a useful tool as, by recording the way you use our site, they enable us to get to know you better. For example, we’re able to recognise you when you return to the site, identify your preferences so as to provide you with a more personalised service and speed up searches that you conduct when visiting.
You don’t have to accept them. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies by activating the relevant setting (please check the help menu of your browser for more details) however, selecting this setting may mean that you are unable to access certain parts of our site.
