the award winning npower energy challenge
Do you have a view on Climate Change? Have you heard about the npower energy challenge?
This award winning competition has brought together over the last 3 years some of the brightest undergraduate minds here in the UK and Germany and asked them to give us their solutions to the debate that is shaping the power industry.
Again this year we are inviting undergraduates in their final or penultimate year to enter this competition. Each team must consist of four students who can be from varying departments, supported by one lecturer. If selected to attend the heat stage, teams will put forward their presentation to a panel of industry experts. Successful entrants will be invited to one of two regional heats in early 2010 to compete for a place in the final. The final is to be held in March at Wembley Stadium and will be judged by the RWE npower Executive board. The winning team will each win £1250 and £5000 for the academic department of the sponsoring lecturer. There will be runner up cash prizes for the second and third placed teams.
The question this year is:
'How should a power generation & supply company respond to climate change?'
When looking for a resolution teams must consider the following:
- areas of security of supply
- affordability
- Public perception of your solution
- sustainability
- customer loyalty & retention
Regional Heats will be held in December for Germany and in February for the UK, one at Didcot power station in Oxfordshire and the other at the RWE npower facility TSG Ferrybridge near Leeds.
The challenge is an invaluable networking opportunity for participants to meet with npower staff from across the UK. It also adds a practical dimension to participants’ studies and the all-important commercial awareness so many employers seek for. This is a dynamic time to be involved in the energy industry and calls for the finest minds in engineering, science and business. Spark the debate and apply today!
