What is juice-e?

juice-e is npower’s first electricity tariff designed specifically for the supply of power for both your home and electric vehicle. Juice-e utilises two day rates, and a cheaper 'off-peak' night rate.

The primary day rate is charged evenly across the year at a rate of 2 units per day to a maximum of 728 units in a 12 month period.

The secondary day rate applies to any units you use over the Primary rate during your peak hours, and the night rate will apply during your specific off-peak hours, available for a 7 hour period between 11:30pm and 8:30am~, allowing you to re-charge your car when the cost is lowest.

A typical overnight charge could cost around £1 if you use the juice-e night rate**. For more information on how this cost is calculated, visit our micro-site at  www.npower.com/ev

juice-e is part of our renewables family, and complies with OFGEM's Green Supply Guidelines as a greener tariff providing real environmental benefit. For every unit of energy you use, we'll match it with renewable energy back into the grid. In addition for every customer taking juice-e we'll donate £10 per year into a green fund used to support community based renewable projects.

To take juice-e, you’ll need a juice-e electricity meter which is a meter capable of recording your electricity consumption according to our juice-e charges. When you sign up, we’ll arrange to exchange your electricity meter, unless you already have a compatible economy 7 meter in your home.

Where we have carried out a meter exchange for you, an early exit fee of £60 may apply if you change your tariff or supplier.

Will I need to install special equipment to charge an Electric Vehicle at home?

It is recommended that you ensure home charging sockets and wiring have been installed and approved by a qualified electrician. npower does not recommend using a standard 13 amp socket to charge electric vehicles**.

We can provide a full service installation of a home juice point charger using fully trained and qualified electricians to survey and fit your home with safe charging technology, which is properly earthed.*

Using an npower juice point to charge your car could reduce charging time to 6 hours. Reducing the charging period, allows you to re-charge during the 7 hour off peak period our juice-e tariff provides, keeping costs as low as possible.

npower home juice points are fully weatherproof, and safe to use outside in adverse weather. More information on our charging points can be found at www.npower.com/ev

How does our juice-e tariff work?

npower matches every unit of normal electricity that you use and feeds the same amount, generated from renewable sources, back into the electricity network.

This tariff is available on a variety of flexible payment methods including Direct Debit, regular payment schemes, cash, cheque, pre-payment is excluded.

£100 Direct Debit Discount

If you pay for your electricity and gas with npower by Direct Debit you could enjoy our £100 Direct Debit discount.

How do we source our fuels?

At npower we produce and source electricity for all our customer needs. As part of our supply commitment, Ofgem, our regulatory body requires us to provide details of where the fuel comes from that is used to make our electricity, achieving compliance to Electricity Supply Licence Condition 21.

The table below applies to npower customers, supplied under the following Electricity Supply Licenses: Npower Ltd, Npower Yorkshire Supply Ltd, Npower Northern Supply Ltd and Npower Direct Ltd.

Between 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012 the electricity npower supplied was from the following fuel sources:

Fuel Type Percentage Used
Coal 29%
Natural Gas 55%
Nuclear 2%
Renewable 12%
Other 2%

The weighted average of Carbon Dioxide emitted in the production of electricity from each fuel source was: 490 grams per kWh.

The radioactive waste, being fuel burnt in the reactor to be subsequently discharged as spent fuel, is 0.0002 grams per kWh.

The figures for the carbon dioxide emissions and radioactive waste use the actual percentages (and the factors provided by DECC, details of which can be found on the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).)

Your annual discount for paying by Direct Debit: If you pay by Direct Debit continuously for 12 months (either by making monthly payments or by settling your quarterly bill in full by variable Direct Debit) we’ll give you a discount off your bill (£100 if you buy both electricity and gas, £50 if you buy just gas or £40 if you buy just electricity). Your discount will be credited to your account on or before the last day of the 12th month after becoming eligible and then on or before the same last day of each year you continue to pay this way. Dual fuel customers must pay for both fuels in one combined payment and accept a combined dual fuel bill or statement to receive a Dual Fuel discount. Certain tariffs are excluded. If you don't pay by Direct Debit and you receive any discount that is equivalent to our Direct Debit discount, this equivalent discount will be replaced by the Direct Debit discount if you switch to Direct Debit payment. Subject to change.

Juice-e: 100% renewable energy at no extra cost to you. npower matches every unit of normal electricity you use and feeds the same amount, generated from renewable sources, back into the electricity network. We estimate your Juice-e consumption regularly, which helps us make sure that, at the end of the year we’ve provided enough clean, renewable energy to cover what you’ve used. Simple. In addition, for every juice-e customer we have, npower contributes a donation of £10/person per annum to the Juice Fund for every year our customers continue to use juice-e. The Juice fund is then used to support community based renewable generation projects, which provide a real environmental benefit.

Where customers pay by monthly Direct Debit: With npower Juice your monthly Direct Debit payments will be calculated to include the annual Direct Debit discount and in the first year, on the assumption you will meet the conditions of those discounts set out on this page.

If for any reason you do not meet the conditions you will not receive the Direct Debit discount and your monthly payments may not be sufficient to meet your estimated consumption. As a result you may have a debit balance to pay.

** Figure based on the current cost of charging an Mitsubishi i-Miev or equivalent for a period of 6 hours using npower's juice-e electricity tariff during the night rate off-peak period.
