How to switch to npower

Looking to switch your energy supplier or tariff? Follow our instructions on how to switch to npower and find a deal that fits your budget. When you've switched to us, you can manage your account online and you could also benefit from a variety of ways to reduce your energy usage

Switch to npower energy and you could save - simply!

  1. Compare our gas and electricity tariffs
  2. Get an energy quote online

To get an energy quote, you'll need:-

  • The name of your current supplier
  • The postcode of the property
  • The amount you currently use or a previous bill amount

So, what happens when you've switched?

You can simply sit back and relax whilst we manage the switch for you.

The first 7 to 10 days

When you switch your energy supply to npower, we'll send you a copy of your contract containing the details you have provided online, along with our Terms and Conditions.


We'll contact your current supplier
There's no need to worry about contacting your current energy supplier to tell them about your switch to npower - we'll do this for you.

Within a further 25 days

We will write to confirm your start date with us and ask you to send us a meter reading. (Don't worry - we'll tell you how to do this.) This reading will be sent to your existing energy supplier, enabling them to send you your final bill. They may try to persuade you to stay with them - please call us first on 0800 3163 375 if you have any concerns about your switch to energy from npower. When you switch, don't stop your payments to your current energy supplier until you pay the final bill - they can object to your transfer to npower if you owe them money.

Within a further 11 days: Your energy switch to npower should be complete

You'll start to receive your energy supply from npower and should receive your first bill within three months.

Your annual discount: If you pay by Direct Debit continuously for 12 months (either by making monthly payments or by settling your quarterly bill in full by variable Direct Debit) we’ll give you a discount off your bill (£100 if you buy both electricity and gas, £50 if you buy just gas or £40 if you buy just electricity). Alternatively, if you pay for both fuels for 12 months by cash or cheque, either when you receive your quarterly bill or by regular monthly or fortnightly payments, we’ll give you a £10 Dual Fuel discount. Your discount will be credited to your account on or before the last day of the 12th month after becoming eligible and then on or before the same last day of each year you continue to pay this way. Dual fuel customers must pay for both fuels in one combined payment and accept a combined dual fuel bill or statement to receive a Dual Fuel discount. Certain tariffs are excluded. Subject to change.

Phone calls: Calling us on a 0800 number is normally free when you call from a landline but charges may vary if you use a mobile. Calling us on a 0330 number will cost you no more than 01 or 02 numbers from landlines or mobiles. If you get ‘inclusive minutes' with your package, calls on a 0330 number will be part of these.
