DECC loses its Feed in Tariff appeal

This week due to a ruling from the Court of Appeal and the draft licence modifications laid before Parliament, PV systems are eligible for a higher Feed in Tariff rate. This means that as things currently stand the Feed in Tariff rate of 43.3p/kWh is now available for domestic Solar PV systems that are registered with your FiT provider before 3rd March 2012. However, DECC (Department of Energy and Climate Change) has indicated that they are seeking permission to appeal to the Supreme Court which could cause more changes if DECC is successful in its appeal.

FiTs rewards homeowners by paying them a tariff for the energy they generate. As things currently stand, these are the rates that will apply for customers installing Solar PV:

  • Before the 3rd of March 2012 – If you register your Solar PV installation with us before the 3rd of March you will receive 43.3p for every unit of electricity you generate and 3.1p for every unit of electricity that is exported to the national grid
  • From 3rd March – 31st of March 2012– If you register your installation with us in this period you will receive 43.3p for every unit generated up to the 1st April 2012, and 21p for every unit generated after that. There is no proposed change to the export tariff.
  • From the 1st of April onwards onwards - The government is proposing you will receive 21p for every unit of electricity generated. and 3.1p for every unit of electricity that is exported to the national grid.

Even at the FIT rate of 21p per kWh Solar PV offers a great return on investment so now is a fantastic time to consider it for your home.
