Clean, green electricity
The Juice Fund was created in 2003 with the primary aim of developing new renewable technologies and gives you, as a Juice customer, the satisfaction that the money you spend on your energy is also helping the environment. npower contribute £10 every year to the Juice Fund for every customer that stays with Juice throughout the year. The money donated to the fund is then reinvested in the development of new renewable technologies.
The Juice Fund has decided to concentrate on wave and tidal technologies as they have the ability to supply a significant proportion of the UK power market. However these technologies are having the same difficulties wind power had 10 - 15 years ago, such as gaining funding and finding suitable sites to test new technologies.
Since the Juice Fund was created in 2003 it has sponsored two projects:
The first is with the Renewable Development Agency for the South West to collect data on the wave energy climate off the North Cornish coast. This will move the industry a step closer to harnessing the power of wave energy in the UK. For more information, please read our press release:
In the first 8 months of monitoring, the wave buoy recorded valuable data showing the potential of wave power and measured one wave that was an amazing 28ft (8.8m) high. For more information on this update please read our press release:
Wave farm potential off Cornish coast
The second project entitled 'The npower Juice path to power' is working with the British Wind Energy Association, on a project that will provide a 'route map' for the future of wave and tidal stream development around the UK. For more information on this project please read our press release:
